5/04/2006EMPIRE TOP 50 INDEPENDENT MOVIES
Lists the 50 best independent (indie) movies of all time according to Empire (Empire who? I don’t know either). I have seen quite a few of them – here’s my quick rating on the ones I saw.
Run Lola Run. Empire Rank: 49. My Rating: A
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Empire Rank: 46. My Rating: Eeeww! How did this even make the list!
Mad Max. Empire Rank: 45. My Rating: A. Who can forget Mel Gibson and Mad Max eh? The sequels were disastrous though.
Amore Perros. Empire Rank: 44. My Rating: A. The movie which inspired Yuva. Very long, but well done.
The Passion of the Christ. Empire Rank: 39. My Rating: A+. Even though I never agreed to the content of this movie, this slo-mo movie had me glued to the screen till the end.
The Blair Witch Project. Empire Rank: 34. My Rating: A+. One of those true “horror†movies – this movie scared the wits out of me.
Lost in Translation. Empire Rank: 26. My Rating: Eeew! This was another terrible bore!
Evil Dead. Empire Rank: 23. My Rating: B. A B grade horror movie, which somehow clicked.
Roger and Me. Empire Rank: 21. My Rating: A++ .Michael Moore’s first documentary is not perhaps is best, but is very powerful.
City of God. Empire Rank: 17. My Rating: A++. Violent and brilliant – this is one of the best gangster movies there is.
Memento. Empire Rank: 13. My Rating: Defies any rating. I can’t believe this is not in top 3, if not number 1. Easily one of the very best movies made. Ever.
Mean Streets. Empire Rank: 10. My Rating: A+. Another helluva gangster movie.
Sideways. Empire Rank: 9. My Rating: Boreways. This movie bored me to death.
The Usual Suspects. Empire Rank: 8. My Rating: A++. Who can forget the end? Classic all the way.
Terminator. Empire Rank: 3. My Rating: A++. The movie that defined special effects. And James Cameroon.
Donnie Darko. Empire Rank: 2. My Rating: A++. This amazing movie never received the accolades it deserved. Jake impressed me with his acting from his very first movie. Amazing performance.
Reservoir Dogs. Empire Rank: 1. My Rating: A++. Quentien Tarantino. God. What else can be said? I would loved to see Pulp Fiction up there as well.
I have seen 17/50. How many have you?
I hereby tag Jedi to read the online list and come up list of movies he’s seen out of this list, and what he thinks of them – I am pretty sure he will score high.
