One of the modern day genius and one of my favorite icons, Stephen Hawking, has asked a very important question on Yahoo Answers.
How can the human race survive the next hundred years?
In a world that is in chaos politically, socially and environmentally, how can the human race sustain another 100 years?
Brilliant question Dr. Hawking. I have been asking the same questions to myself and my friends - except that I dont share your fame, and thus no one takes me seriously!
I think the only way the human race can survive the next hundred years is (and I write with dead seriousness):
- Find a cure for HIV and Bird Flu.
- Eradicate Jihad.
- Leave earth to other galaxies.
- Embrace the JEDI world order
So what do you think? How can the human race survive the next hundred years? Would love to hear your answers!
Oh survive we definitely will. Probably not in the way our sci-fi movies would have us believe. But we will. Given the world’s obsession with computers, networks, war, missiles, extremism, heating up the earth, running the renwable fuels dry, enabling the mortals live longer and making babies… it will be a long journey to survive the next 100 but one where we’ll learn lessons galore.
That is if some day we are not nuked or hit by some godforsaken comet.
I’d like to let the suspense remain and not think too much too ahead.
Cheers!
Karan.
Obvioulsy no. 4 is absolutely essential!
Once that happens everything else, hopefully with my blessing, will work out on its own.
Dr. Hawking! Everytime I hear his name I always find myself wondering “Didnt this guy die already?” No offence, but he’s one of those people who seem mm.. centuries old. I used to feel the same about Mother Teresa. Now dont tell me she’s still alive! And no, fake sainthood doesnt count.
Apparently there’s already a vaccine for bird flu. For birds!!! Who’ll make one for the humans, you idiots??
By the time all the birds are cured, the humans would have died. And it wouldnt be bird flu anymore. It would have mutated to become bird HIV. Still the monkeys will make fun of the birds. “phbbtt.. we got em before you!!”
However, I feel its all part of evolution. Human beings are boring. We need mutants!
jEDI
-the only chance for the human race is to completely devote itself to me!
Uh oh…
Karan seems to have talked in a very fatalistic manner. Suddenly it seems almost impossible for the earth to survive with all the risks he pointed out.
Our very own Jedi poses another question. Do we (or cane we) need mutants?
Brrr…its scary. I hope I the earth stays just this way until we are up here.
Amen !

I still remember the complete variety of answers people came up for this one.
In the end, its not really in our hands, if you ask me. Evolution involves survival of the fittest in the existing envrons. Today, its homo sapiens. If we decide to completely destroy our current environment in the name of war, or improvement… then the coin flip is as good a way of guessing as anyone’s opinion.
what about “World Peace”..? :d
Survive we will, unless there is a natural catastrophe of the scale that made dinosaurs extinct like meteors or, god forbid, asteroids.
It’s the basic instinct of any species to survive and living beings can go to any extent to ensure their survival. Except of course a miniscule few with suicidal tendencies.
I think it’s more important how we humans spend our times here, doing something creative. Otherwise our perennial survival is meaningless.
Cockoaches have outlived Dinosaurs and are known to even live and thrive even under highly-radioactive conditions. Reason being adaptability. We humans are highly adaptable. So mostly I’m hoping we’ll outlive the roaches.

Also add:
- Genetically modify humans with cocroch genes. (Apparently they survive in a nuclear attack).
- Castrate Bush famiy so they can’t produce any more offspring
- build a huge wall around pak and make sure nobody gets in/gets out
My friends… The issue here is not how we will survive the next hundred years but HOW we choose to mold this planet over the next few generations that will ultimately be the difference between us fighting for survival over the next 300-700 years or so until we join the list of extinct species or continue living another 10′000 (or 100′000) years as the most successful species in the universe. This planet has all the resources (renewable and other) to sustain life comfortably HERE for at least another 5000 years if not 50,000 years, but we have hit a fork in the road and the choices we make now will be what shapes the rest of our existence. WE need to stop rushing, take a step back and look at the BIG picture. I have dedicated a lot of time into thinking what our potential is and cant wait for the future.
@Twisted DNA: “Castrate Busy Family” - ROFL - thats a great suggestion.
