In the news tonite.
2/08/2006So the area I live experienced one of the hottest days recorded in history. A good 99 Farenheit, translated to 37 degree celcius.
Yes, 37 degree celcius. 99 Farenheit.
At 10.00 PM in the night, we had our local news, which spent 20 minutes out of 30 minutes on this:
1 – Heat index in D.C area was more than 10 making 99 “feel” more like 110. There is a cool front approaching which will bring relief to us, but that is another 24 hours away. Tomorrow will be another hot day, and with heat index temperatures are expected to be 115.
People are advised to stay indoors, and venture out only if absolutely necessary. Carry a bottle of water too.
2 – In northwest D.C, a dog breeder let out his dogs for a walk in the sweltering heat because his A.C was not working. One dog died of the heat, one is in ICU, and one has gone missing!
3 – A woman was absolutely aghast that she had to travel in public transportation buses which didnt have ACs working. “It was like twilight hour from hell” she said on her experience. The state transport authority responded to her complaint saying that “Even though AC is functioning, the bus makes frequent stops to pick and drop people. Every time you open the door, hot air comes in and stays. So its not that the AC is not functioning”.
The news reporter, a stat freak, also informed us with trivia such as: There are 1500 buses operated by State transport, out of which only 14 reported broken AC, and those buses have been taken out of service. State transport officials however got only “10” complaints from riders about excessive heat!
4 – A redskins football player complained to the newscast that he lost 3 pounds during practice tonite! “I had full three meals day bro, but I still lost 3″ said the sweaty redskins player.
“Its HOT!” the two reporters in the studio finally agreed, and added further –
Up ahead, two shootings in Northwest D.C, The war on terror, Fidel Castro gone – now what?, and Israel defending – All this, right after the break!
Yes. Weather is a big deal here.
