Bhansali’s Women

After watching Saawariya, Black, HDDCS and Devdas, I have come to conclusion that:

Bhansali loves his women running around. Even if a staircase is available right next to where they are standing, his women must run through at least five doors and equal number of rooms to get to the opposite staircase to rush down.

Bhansali’s women never run in comfortable clothes; instead they must be adorned in the lengthiest of lenghas and cholis and a twice as long dupatta floating around their necks before they start running.

Its not that his women don’t run straight, its just that they must overturn and overthrow couple of obstacles while they are on their mission; a couple vases must break, several showpiece items must fly off the shelf, and atleast one part of their costume must catch fire!

At the end of their run, they must collapse either one feet short, or faint in the arms of the beloved they wanted to catch up with. You see, running around in such weighty paraphernalia is difficult!

Bhansali’s women are the most innocent human beings and the next best thing to pure love. They are coy, absolutely likeable and look really pretty all the time. Most of their day is spent in activities such as carpet cleaning, hanging wet clothes on terraces, sitting around with old women and hearing their naughty stories, carrying a puja thaali around, knitting gaghra-cholis or something equally domestic.

Bhansali’s women face a severe love identity crisis. Most of the time they can’t figure out who’s in love with them, nor can they comprehend whom they really love. It helps that their men are equally innocent and all forgiving who’ll go out of their way to confuse her even more by committing themselves to uniting her with the one she loves.

That said, I find Bhansali’s movies good. His sense of vision is so damn artistic!! And yes, irrespective of what people think, I absolutely loved Saawariya. Visually, its his most breathtaking project yet!
