Greece – Part 6 (Informational)

21/06/2009

I intend this post to be small with information about the places we stayed and the things we did. It might prove useful to somebody who comes in looking for it.

Athens is the center point – so if you are getting to greece, Athens is the place you will land and move out of Greece.

Air tickets: Expect to pay around 600-800$ return trip from SFO. You could get better deals.

Water is super cheap anywhere in greece. Expect to pay 50 cents for small bottle and 1 Euro for the big 1.5 liter water bottle.

Take ample sunscreen and lotions; they are expensive in greece!

Athens and Mainland Greece
Hotel Attalos: Expect to pay around 80 to 90 Euros per night. (Our rating: 0 stars. Pay 10 euros more and go to a better hotel!)
Cape Sounion tour: 40 Euros per person (Must do!)
2 day Delphi-Meteora tour: Approx 125 Euros per person, hotel and most meals included. (Must do!)
1 day Argolis tour: 80 Euros per person (Not worth it! – you could save on this trip, as well as the night at hotel by going directly to airport. Its quite an amount that one could save!)
Acropolis and sites entrance: 12 Euros per person.
Food: We spent approx 20-30 Euros per day for two people.

Mikonos
Hotel Pelican: Expect to pay around 60 to 80 Euros per night. (Our rating: AMAZING place. The best 3 star we’ve been. Period!)
Delos Half day trip: 15 Euros per person (Only if you are a history buff)
Transportation costs: approx 20 euros to go around the island for the 3 days including our taxis to ports.
Food costs: Islands are expensive. We paid approx 50-70 Euros per day on average. (Including breakfast, lunch and dinner)

Santorini
Marizan Villas: Expect to pay around 140-180 euros per night. Yes, Santorini is VERY expensive! (Our rating: Not much choice unless you wish to pay even more for better places!)
Transportation costs: approx 20 euros to go around places. Taxi to and from port to Oia, approx 25 Euros one way (so around 50 euros two way).
Caldera volcano and hot springs tour: 45 Euros per person
Food costs: Very expensive island. We paid approx 70-90 Euros per day on average. (Including breakfast lunch and dinner).
We could have easily cut down on one day stay in santorini and made some more savings ;)

Inter-island Transportation
Flight from Athens to Mikonos: 72 Euros for both of us; we got a deal. Ferries cost even lesser.
Ferry from Mikonos to Santorini: 38 Euros per person. Flights too expensive on this sector.
Ferry from Santorini to Athens: 42 Euros per person. Flights are too expensive on this sector.

That’s about it. Budget yourself for some extras too like shopping and all ;) .
